'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.
She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member called the authorities again.
She explained the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five children.
